The Start of a New Year... |
|||||
|
As we enter into 2025, we take a look back at how the last year wrapped up and the events that transpired around our cherished members. First and foremost, we lost one of our dearest friends when Umberto Grati tragically passed on November 30. In our news item published on December 10, we reflected on his illustrious career and echoed the touching words of Ancona’s (Umberto’s hometown) mayor, who shared his memories and perception of the legendary artist. On a different and happier note, member Harry Giglio got a chance to expand his portfolio during his month-long stay in Italy; the book “Ditching the Sky” with a wonderful and dramatic cover by Alicia Buelow was published; and Jay Watson was asked by Urthwear to help photograph apparel for their streetwear relaunch. We also got to see some delicious (as always) imagery by Souders Studios created for the Grateful Bread Company. Last but not least, we saw one of our newest members, Eleanor Kaufman, grab the spotlight with her illustrative and design-driven work. Now turning our heads to the future, we wish each and every one of our members a happy and fulfilling new year! |

Eleanor, who recently joined Altpick.com, is a NYC-based Illustrator and Graphic Designer and also writes and performs original music. Eleanor went to school for Graphic Design in Boston, MA, where she combined her love for Illustrating with Design. She infuses a lot of her custom illustration work into her branding and design work. |

Remembering Our Friend, Umberto Grati |

|
It is with heavy hearts that we here at Altpick mourn the tragic passing of our dear member and friend, Umberto Grati. He left us on November 30, at the much too early age of 60. Born in 1964 in Ancona, Italy, Umberto (or “Umb” as he was called by many) was to become one of the city’s most brilliant and well-rounded citizens. As an illustrator, painter, designer, graphic designer, and even a musician, “Umb” left a permanent mark on the art world, working with newspapers such as Il Sole 24 Ore, magazines like La Settimana Enigmistica, Italy’s national public broadcasting company, RAI, and many more. |
